I need help identifying this bird...

A couple of weeks ago I was looking out my back door when I noticed something large move. It was perched on our antique plow handle so I slowly went to grab my camera and I captured a picture of it. I've spent some time googling to see what it is and think I have narrowed it down to a falcon, but the closest match I can find is a "prairie falcon". According to the article, those should not even migrate through our area. So if any of you know what kind it is, I would love to know! It was rather beautiful and treat to watch.
